Gun Control

Competitive MarksmanshipThe first thing I learned about “gun control” involves squeeeeeeezing the trigger. You really need to fully commit and fully focus on a smooth, evenly timed trigger pull. While riveting your visual on your front sight the entire cycle of the trigger pull, from initial finger print contact, to round firing, to firearm recoiling, to the the firearm returning to position for the next gun-controlled trigger pull. And don’t forget to breathe. And, don’t forget about your stance and posture, keeping your shoulders down and away from strangling your jugular veins. Oh, and don’t forget to snug both hands firmly on the grip with a consistent pressure while exercising that perfectly executed gun controlled trigger pull. Did I miss anything? Who’s paying attention? We absolutely cannot leave out The Follow Through: you know, hold everything for a hair of a breath of a second to let the round exit the weapon. Gun control: don’t disturb the gun (while you pull the trigger, firmly grip the gun, stand relaxedly, watch your front sight,

execute follow the follow through).

Now, as for the shooter, what is our nation THINKING? Laws only apply to the good guys. Bad guys do not care. Their distorted mindset thrives on learning the laws and figuring out how to work around them or the bad guys thrive on seeing what they can get away with. The good guys NEED to be able to protect themselves. Period. Training comes first, because with the right good guy mindset, we learn to pay attention, we learn to leave a situation is something does not feel right, we learn lots of items can be used as weapons. Let us consider our hands, our feet, our keys, our kitchen knives, our garage tools all become useful weapons in the need to defend ourselves. Do we quit shopping at Home Depot and turn all our wrenches and cleaning rags over to our current government? Wow, I sure hope not. Bad guys are the problem, not the gun, not the weapon. Please consider what gun control can really do: make a great shot on your intended target.

About admin

"I worked as a Federal Law Enforcement Officer for over 14 years, in a firearms carrying capacity. First assigned to LAX (1994), then to the Los Angeles/ Long Beach Seaport (1997-2007), I took an early retirement from my final duty station of El Paso, TX (2007-2008). Never having handled firearms prior to this job, I give full credit for my initial shooting lessons and safe firearms handling skills to the government. As I began to compete, I gleaned tips and coaching lessons from the best law enforcement instructors across the nation, turning myself into one of the best, too. I was a firearms instructor in Los Angeles and a national level competitor on a formally sponsored team from 1999 through 2003, being sent all over the nation for pistol match competitions. As a result of this gift of an experience, I went on to set five national records in the law enforcement shooting sports. Check in regularly to read about those and other adventures and misadventures!"
