Basic Fundamentals of Motherhood & Shooting

Competitive MarksmanshipTomorrow signifies another Mother’s Day. This week also marks the one year anniversary of the passing of my own mother. Her intense charm captivated all who knew her. Surprisingly, that same intensity played out just the opposite at home. It would be easy to identify her lack of consistent engagement in anything fundamental to motherhood as producing the varying results which drove us all crazy. In other words, us kids were left to our own devices to figure out how to navigate growing up. With that, I tried my best to bring a consistent and easy to understand set of basics to my children’s upbringing. But, dealing with human beings is just not the same as dealing with a firearm! My kids tried their best to deliver consistent resistance to every behavior and event they presented to me. Somehow, we all came out of it alive and well, educated, degreed, and responsible citizens. So, my reverence and awe to the task of motherhood, a job which never really ends, leaves me to conclude:  I think hitting the X -mark at 50 yards with a 4″ barrel revolver makes for a less frustrating and confounding endeavor!! Happy Mother’s Day to all.

About admin

"I worked as a Federal Law Enforcement Officer for over 14 years, in a firearms carrying capacity. First assigned to LAX (1994), then to the Los Angeles/ Long Beach Seaport (1997-2007), I took an early retirement from my final duty station of El Paso, TX (2007-2008). Never having handled firearms prior to this job, I give full credit for my initial shooting lessons and safe firearms handling skills to the government. As I began to compete, I gleaned tips and coaching lessons from the best law enforcement instructors across the nation, turning myself into one of the best, too. I was a firearms instructor in Los Angeles and a national level competitor on a formally sponsored team from 1999 through 2003, being sent all over the nation for pistol match competitions. As a result of this gift of an experience, I went on to set five national records in the law enforcement shooting sports. Check in regularly to read about those and other adventures and misadventures!"
